Paint Pole Camera Mount

I wanted to make a camera mount that would allow me to get shots from above and behind me as I fished from my kayak, so I made this using a $5 extendable paint pole from Lowe's. It uses the 5 threads per inch thread pattern from halley's model. It screws on tightly to the paint pole and is held together with 1/4" x 20 bolts and lock nuts. The camera can pan and tilt and maintains its angle due to the use of a rubber washer that grips the striations in the parts nicely.

This should work with any camera that uses the standard 1/4-20 mounting screw, but it could easily be adapted for use with other cameras.

Instructions

Hardware needed

1 1/4-20 x 1.5" bolt

2 1/4-20 x 1" bolt

1 1/4x1/2x1/16" rubber washer

3 1/4-20 lock nuts

4 1/4" washers

Print out all three pieces. No supports are needed. I printed them at a layer height of 0.3mm and an infill of 15%. This seems plenty strong enough, but if you are expecting more stress from a larger camera or impact, you could always print them with a higher infill.

Attach the fork to the screw base with a 1x1/4-20 bolt with a washer between the fork and the screw base and also between the screw base and the lock nut. This should allow the fork to turn without the nut loosening.

Attach the camera plate to the fork with a 1x1.5-20 bolt with a lock nut with a 1/4x1/2x1/16" rubber washer between one side of the fork and the camera base . This allows you to change the angle of the camera, but still holds it very secure.

Put a 1/4-20 bolt up through the camera plate and secure it with a lock washer. Screw the camera onto the bolt and adjust the bolt to the desired rotation.

Screw the assembly onto a paint pole, broom handle, mop handle, etc. with a thread count of 5 per inch.

Category: Other
