Making the perfect bowl of popcorn is easy! All you need is a few tablespoons of high smoke-point neutral tasting oil (I like to use avocado oil), and the correct ratio of popcorn kernels to **powdered** salt. Honestly, the key is the powdered salt! You can buy this, or simply make it by using a coffee grinder to pulverize standard table salt. Bring the oil up to a medium heat and add the salt to the oil and shake the pot around to spread the salt around the oil. Next, add the popcorn kernels and keep that pot moving! Place a lid loosely over the lid to keep exploding popcorn in place, but don't keep the lid on tight! You need to let the steam escape and not condense, dripping down on to the light fluffy popcorn you worked so hard to make. This popcorn scoop features a popcorn kernel measuring cup (in cups) and a powdered salt measuring cup (in teaspoons) built into the handle. The design is parametric (naturally) so any combination of volumes can be created. **As provided, the ratio (what I have found to be perfect to my taste through dozens of bowls of popcorn) is: 2/3 cup of popcorn (makes ~4L) to 3/4 tsp powdered salt.** FreeCAD (design parameters) spreadsheet setup:

User defined dimensions are highlighted with red.

Computed values are marked in cyan.

Comparison values are magenta. This is the odd-shape volume calculation. You can copy and paste the formulas ("=<<popcorn scoop base shape>>.Shape.Volume") without quotes into the appropriate cells to have it done automagically.

Modify the scoop height (marked in yellow) value until your derived shape volume matches the desired cups volume in mL (cc).

All values can be edited.

The design was done in FreeCAD and as mentioned it is fully parametric. I have included the FreeCAD file so that you can modify the design to your heart's content. I am open to any suggestions as to how to improve the design work-flow in FreeCAD. This is particularly true of how to have FreeCAD integrate the volume of the shape without it causing a circular dependency loop in the spreadsheet. My hope was to have FreeCAD integrate the volume and then solve for the scoop height automatically.
