Parametric Boardgame
thingiverse
This Open Source parametric game challenges the traditional notion of a single board game designer. The game is based on the concept of battleship but allows players to customize the rules, complexity, and board shape according to their preferences. It uses color 3mm filament bits as pegs and celestial bodies with holes for stacking and connecting. Players choose their depth level, which affects the starting currency, allowed celestial bodies and powers. Each player controls a hidden galaxy board and places markers on a common visible board to indicate hits and misses. After spending currency on celestial bodies and powers, players take turns probing and colonizing planets until they either win by having the last uncolonized planet or get eliminated. Celestial Bodies have various population capacities, near hit reporting abilities, and special attributes that grant unique one-time powers. The ultimate goal is to see this game played at hackerspaces and conventions, potentially forming an official league.
