Parametric Camera Lens Caps

Parametric Camera Lens Caps

I found a number of lenses recently that did not come with their lens caps. The most problematic was a fisheye lens where the glass stuck out from the body of the lens so was particularly vulnerable. I made a Blender 2.79 script to generate lens caps for them, including the ability to have relief for the lens glass in front of a sleeve that pushes up against the front of the lens body. The CLEARANCE parameter can be set to suit your printer and filament; 0.1mm worked for my Prusa printer using MatterHackers TPE flexible filament, providing a snug fit without being too hard to slide on and off. I also include the STL files for the particular settings found in the Blender script to give an idea of the kind of caps that worked for my particular lenses. I used calipers to measure the outer lens diameter in millimeters and set the WIDTH parameter to that. The INNER_WIDTH should be less and for fisheye lenses it should clear the lens but also sit against the edge of the lens body front. The HEIGHT tells how much material will slide onto the lens. The THICKNESS sets how thick the sides and front of the cap are. The RELIEF should be larger than the distance that the glass sticks out from the front of the lens body.
