Another D-Sub housing?

Actually I was surprised to not find more and better models out there already...

D-Sub connectors are quite commonly used and I usually have the connectors in my junk-boxes. But what about the housings? For the first they are often quite pricy in comparison to the connectors and they are also a bit bulky. So why not store a file instead and print them on demand?

Print Settings

Printer Brand:

Wanhao

Printer:

Wanhao Duplicator i3 V2

Rafts:

Doesn't Matter

Supports:

No

Resolution:

0.2 mm

Infill:

20%

Filament: Clas Ohlson PLA orange

Notes:

The design can be printed without supports. There might be some stringing inside the hole for the hex nuts, but this can be easily cleaned out.

Post-Printing =============
You need to print two copies of the shell. Use two M3 x 15mm screws to clamp the two halves together.

How I Designed This

The design is based on commonly available shell housing for D-Sub connectors. I went for a design with screws instead of snaps for stability and longevity reasons. The screw holes are countersunk M3x15 screws and hex nuts.rnrnThe dimensions of the D-Sub connectors are taken from the datasheets of ITT Cannon, Assmann and PDI with some averaging between the values. The design has been tested with 9-pin, 15-pin (dual row), and 25-pin connectors.rnrnAs for other shells this design consists of two identical halves.

Category: Electronics
