Parametric planetary gear

thingiverse

Just another script to create planetary gears or just single gears. It's written in Lua for IceSL, allowing to change the number of teeths and star wheels in real-time. The size is based on the module, default settings are M1, with 21 teeth for the sun and star wheels, 10 mm width. The wheelbase of these wheels and the teeth of planetary gear are automatically calculated and displayed. The quality of the gears is controlled by the script, and per default it's just preview quality, because the display works in real-time, while full details take a noticeable amount of time to update the display. Change this before exporting to STL or slicing. (If you look at the script you can see the gears are not made by extruding an involute gear but by a kind of virtual milling - this is the reason that the display is slow (less than a second) in full details.) And then there are many other parameters you might or might not want to tweak - see the readme section inside of the script.
