Part of the grave steele of Alexandra

Part of the grave steele of Alexandra

myminifactory

This steele has the form of a naiskos with Corinthian half-columns and an epistyle with a cornice and antefixes. The name of the dead woman is inscribed on the epistyle. Alexandra, wife of Ktetos, is depicted with the characteristic dress and symbols of the goddess Isis. The frequent depiction in reliefs of people accompanied by Isis's symbols attests to the wide dissemination of the cult of the Egyptian goddess in Greece.
