As a six-week Creator of Learning and Discovery Experiences at Westport Library's innovative MakerSpace, I embarked on a creative project that brought together staff, patrons, and me to design and craft one-of-a-kind cardboard costumes for chess pieces. Equipped with the versatile Autodesk 123D Catch software, I expertly scanned participants, transforming them into intricately detailed digital models. These raw scans were then refined using Meshmixer's editing prowess, further enhanced by Netfabb's precision repair capabilities. With each model perfected, they seamlessly integrated into Tinkercad's design platform to become the crown jewels of a bespoke community chess set. Intrigued viewers can delve deeper into this extraordinary project by visiting the official Monograph publication: https://monograph.io/joshburker/community-chess-set A visually striking and interactive album featuring the complete range of crafted pieces is also available on Flickr, showcased through this remarkable collection: https://www.flickr.com/photos/senorwences/albums/72157658496957881/ **Instructions for Printing at Home or in a Library Setting** To bring the custom-made community chess set to life, patrons and library staff collaborated closely with me to select materials and settings tailored to meet our creative needs. Specifically, high-quality ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) filaments were used on MakerBot Replicator at 0.3mm layer resolution and 10% infill density to ensure optimal print results. This expert selection process yielded precise replicas that perfectly capture the original chess piece's grandeur, ready for your community or family gatherings to relish.
