The human body is made up of many different systems, each working together to keep us alive and functioning properly. One of these systems is the muscular system, which makes it possible for our bodies to move and perform various tasks. The muscular system is composed of skeletal muscles, smooth muscles, and cardiac muscles. Skeletal muscles are attached to bones and help us move by contracting and relaxing. They are voluntary muscles, meaning we have control over when they contract and relax. Smooth muscles are found in the walls of hollow organs such as the digestive tract, blood vessels, and airways. They help to move substances through these organs, but we do not have conscious control over them. Cardiac muscle is found only in the heart and helps it beat, pumping blood throughout the body.
