Perch Skeleton Model (Perca flavescens)

Perch Skeleton Model (Perca flavescens)

thingiverse

This is a skeleton (head and whole body) of a yellow perch (Perca flavescens). This species is commonly used in Comparative Anatomy labs and textbooks to study fish skeletal anatomy, and therefore this model was created for virtual teaching purposes. It probably will not 3D print well, because it has lots of little pieces that aren't attached to the rest of the model. However, you can download it and study the bones virtually. This specific fish is stored permanently at the Bell Museum of Natural History, operated by the University of Minnesota, and it's ID number is JFBM-41302. You can read more about where the fish was caught and see a picture of it here: https://www.idigbio.org/portal/records/6d698c56-52ce-4ab6-8238-35a9bb820a92 This 3D model was made from a skeletal reconstruction from a micro-CT scan. The fish was scanned as a part of a big project called OVert (openVertebrates) to scan as many vertebrate species as possible. Data from OVert is uploaded to MorphoSource.org, and you can find this specimen's MorphoSource entry and original CT data here: https://www.morphosource.org/Detail/MediaDetail/Show/media_id/30109 This specimen was micro-CT scanned by Dr. Kory Evans at Rice University: https://biosciences.rice.edu/people/kory-evans The 3D models were created and processed by Dr. Stacy Farina at Howard University for her Biol 252 Comparative Anatomy of Vertebrates course: https://profiles.howard.edu/profile/53411/stacy-farina These models are free to use for educational and research purposes.
