Periodic Table of Elements

Periodic Table of Elements

I've used TinkerCAD to create a periodic table with the 3D printer. Each tile includes the elements symbol, atomic number, and mass number. Using these in the classroom is ideal. You can print specific elements a unique color plastic to indicate (periodic families, state of matter, classification of matter, etc). Print Settings Printer Brand: MakerBot Printer: MakerBot Replicator 2 How I Designed This TinkerCAD Lesson Plan and Activity 1) Grab Bag of Elements: When you are choosing groups or lab partners, each student can grab an element from the bag. Then based on the content, students will be asked to go to specific groups. Ex: If your element have the 3 valance electrons, go to lab station #3 Ex: If your element is in the Alkali Metal Family, go to lab station #1 2) Each student could be given a set of all the elements. Have the students organize the elements according to: --- state of matter (solids/liquids/gases) --- classification of matter (metals, metalloids, nonmetals) --- periodic family --- facts about the elements discovery (year, nation, scientist) 3) These tiles could be used to enrich lessons about --- electron configuration --- chemical bonding --- molar mass 4) Special Education --- using these tiles in the special education classroom can make learning chemistry easier. It is a visual way of helping students learn how to calculate molar mass for any chemical formula. It is a hands-on tool for learning about how the periodic table is organized.
