**I may add a "remixed" alternative version which is meant to be table-mounted instead of on the "top of the monitor".** If this sounds interesting and you don't see a remix for it, leave me a comment. Now with 100% more magnets ------------------------------------------------ Unlike my previous builds, this one uses **magnets** instead of screws to hold the lid of the box to the body. [I made a video showing how it works](https://youtu.be/lWyq1dkd6AE). Inspiration and housing model ------------------------------------------------ [ZackFreeman](https://www.youtube.com/user/zackfreeman) recently [posted a video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KwI4XkB2uQg&t=2303s) which, starting at 38m 23s, included discussion about the [Person Sensor by Useful Sensors](https://www.sparkfun.com/products/21231) (also at [Digikey](https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/sparkfun-electronics/SEN-21231/16895653)). ZackFreeman created a [model to house the sensor](https://thangs.com/designer/ZackFreedman/3d-model/Person%20Sensor%20Mount%20-%20Print-in-place%2C%20nothing%20but%20filament%21-836098). This is amazing (I've included it here for archival purposes). I had zero need to make changes (but print it at 0.2 or 0.15 for best success). **ZackFreeman's model is shared using the MIT license.** My model and build ------------------------------------------------ I wanted to house a microcontroller for this project, but didn't want to reinvent the sensor housing, so I created this for it. It has posts on the bottom so you can screw an [ElectroCookie Mini PCB Prototype Board](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B081MSKJJX) into it using m2.5 screws. I provided enough space to use pin headers for the microcontroller. The PersonSensor came with a QWIIC. I adapted it to JST XH which is friendlier for prototype PCBs using [this crimping set](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B082234HSS). I used [these 6x3 magnets](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07873ZCY4) to attach the case lid to the case body. My monitor is about 21mm thick. This is designed to hook onto the top/back of the monitor using some double-sided tape. ESPHome Project Code ------------------------------------------------ My ESPHome project for this [can be found here](https://github.com/kdorff/esphome/tree/main/office-person-sensor).
