Peterthinks' chain
pinshape
A Personal Project Taking Shape This custom chain is designed to be threaded onto flexible materials such as filament, wire or elastic cord rather than linking together with small protrusions like traditional chains. While still in development, the chain itself is functional and ready for use. To adapt this design to your printer's needs, modify the ends accordingly. Filaflex or regular PLA can be used to join the chain links, but insulated 16 AWG copper wire works exceptionally well too. The Sketchup files are provided so you can make any necessary adjustments. Due to its forgiving tolerance, this chain can be extended to almost any length without risk of coming apart. Additionally, the spine holes can be easily cleaned up with a drill for added versatility. Instructions Thread your chosen material through the holes and loop it back through the top piece around the mounting bolt hole. Secure each end with a knot and/or apply glue to the spine tube to keep it attached to the base plate component. I plan to utilize flexible multi-strand wire as my chain's backbone, but I'm unsure about the long-term durability of filament under repeated bending.
