We all know that those pesky Philips gears made out of soft plastic get cracked or broken after 20 years. This is true for Philips MSX datacoders and for the tape recorders as well. When some gear cracks or looses its teeth, damage may happen to a played tape. This happened in my Philips 8118 tape recorder when I was listening to my Japanese music tape from the 80s. As a result, one meter of the tape was chewed by the mechanism. An autopsy revealed that both gears were missing 1-3 teeth and could not be used further. So, I created the set of gears for repairing the tape recorder. This is the set of 2 gears for Philips 8118 tape recorder from the 80s. Gear 2 has several variations that could help to achieve best printing results. One variant has a flat bottom surface (works as good as non-flat one), the "Exp" variant has larger diameter of the upper gear - that helps to get proper connection to auto-stop mechanism (worked best in my tape recorder). You can always buy the modern replacement gears on e-bay from a Polish user, but the price bites.
