This thing is used for holding the Philips Hue Dimmer Switch. It serves as an alternative to the rather wide stock backplate provided with the Dimmer Switch by Philips. The 50 mm seemed to be the standard width of my regular light switches. It is mounted to any surface with double-sided tape. EDIT (2018-04-05): Version #2 added with internal corners rounded to better fit the peripheral of the Hue Dimmer.
