This lets you mount the Phillips hue dimmer switch on top of your existing light switch by replacing the switch cover plate. This is designed specifically for light switches that are common in the US. (Sorry, not for paddle switches). I glued some rare earth magnets on the back, but they don't work as well as those found on the dimmer plate it came with. I think the magnets need to be closer to the center of the switch, but that's not going to really work here.

You're going to need some longer than average switch plate screws - but you should be able to get those at any hardware store. (This version was removed, because it was dumb)

The thickness of the plate is mostly at 1.6mm - to make it easier for those with .4mm nozels to print. I'd recommend at least 80% infill or better.

The tolerances are pretty tight, (especially the oblong notch) so I recommend printing this pretty-side-up and using supports on the ugly side. Unless you like sanding, that is.

Let me know if there's any improvements ya'all would like to see, I'd be happy to post updates.

EDIT: Thanks to user talz13, who pointed out I could make the screw pockets deeper instead of using special long screws. I revised the file and removed the long screw version.

EDIT 2: The magnets we'rent stick well in the previous versions, so I decreased the density of the material between magnet and switch. I also added ribs for support, and decreased the chamfer around the switch hole, so now the mechanical friction holds the switch in well on it's own.

EDIT 3: Thanks to user peet2 who noticed the edges of switch plates stick out a little farther than the screw holes, so I extended the outer edge by 2.5 mm so the outer edge will sit snug against the wall.

EDIT 4: At the request of @HJacobs, I made a 2-up version. I don't have any 2-up outlets to test this with, so if you print it, please let me know if it works or not.

EDIT 5: @HJacobs confirmed the 2-up version fits properly. I added a 3-up and 4-up version using the same offsets, so thoseshould work as well. If you print them, please let me know if they fit/print correctly.

Print Settings

Printer Brand:

Prusa

Printer:

Prusa Clone

Rafts:

Doesn't Matter

Supports:

Yes

Resolution:

.2mm

Infill:

80%

Category: Household
