The National Safety Council reports that cell phone use while driving leads to 1.6 million crashes each year. This mount could reduce that amount of accidents. A lot of those people do not have a good place to put their phone while driving that is not distracting and also will stay in one place. The Phone Fit Car Mount is a cell phone holder that is inserted to the vent of almost any car. The mount is designed to be used with most recent cars and can also be used with the majority of smartphones out there today. Most smartphone mounts have a lot of issues holding the phone in the correct position. A lot of them also do not allow for charging while the phone is held in the mount. With the FDM 3D printed smartphone mount, the user can see their phone while driving and charge their phone as needed. The mount works by using two clips that surround the smartphone sides and a standardized rubber band to hold tension on the phone. This way, the mount will not do damage to the phone while still holding it in place. The rubber band is easily put on the mount and the mount can be inserted in the vent. The phone then pulls the clips apart and the rubber band closes them around the phone. The advantage of using FDM 3D printing is it can be assembled in just three parts simple parts. These parts can be made easily and quickly with 3D printing. 3D printing these parts with PLA plastics is also a great option because it is very cost effective.
