Phone Mount Lego Rig

Phone Mount Lego Rig

This is a little rig that connects to a common type of mobile / cell phone mount on one side (via the 4 little lugs) and to Lego Mindstorms pieces on the other side. The purpose is to securely mount your mobile phone to your Lego Mindstorms robot - I've used this to create a remote operated telepresence robot for example. I downloaded a 3-brick Lego piece model from Thingiverse last year to help make this but forget who to credit. Instructions This has been printed on both an UP! printer with ABS and also via Shapeways laser sintered plastic. With the UP! in mind I added an extra half-mm or so to the height of the upper lugs to make sure it slots into the standard ports in the mobile phone holder - the result is a nice, firm connection with the mass-produced phone mount, but the tolerances with the Lego holes are what you would expect. The Shapeways print has much better tolerances on the Lego holes - again as you would expect - but the literal height increase with the lugs mean that the fit with the phone mount is not snug; it is a little loose and needs blu-tack to reliably secure.
