The Pietà executed circa in 1758 belongs to the realist art stage of Antonio Bonazza's life. The Italian artist was a prominent sculptor of the Rococo who came from a large family of artists and was largely influenced in his work by Orazio Marinali. The sculpture Pietà was a work originally meant for the Church of San Giovanni di Verdara in Padua. The work was afterwards seized by the military troops in 1866 after Italy was united as a single country in 1861. After the unpleasant event, the Pietà was finally brought to Musei Civici agli Eremitani in Padua where it is currently placed.
