I wanted to create a pimax headstrap which would have more adjustment then the vive das & would allow me to use my own headphones.

I took a headstrap from a broken psvr & created a headstrap adapter which has at least some adjustment on all axis.
you can move the whole headstrap up & down, you can slide the hmd in & out on the psvr slider & it can also be tilted up & down on the hinge.
The psvr headstrap rides a little higher on the forehead than on the psvr but it works fine still.
Its nice to be able to easily tweak the pimax hmd position on the go for clarity & makes it easier to pass the hmd to friends & family for this reason.
Its also nice to relieve pressure from your face on longer play sessions.
Also you will be able to achieve a better fit than with the vive das, if you have a smaller head.

I used drcube's excellent pimax top clip as a starting point & added a strong hinge to it.
this hinge then attaches to a plate which is attached to the psvr headstrap using the 4 screws which came off of it.
The psvr slider locking lever goes in to lock the slide.
Finally a cover angled similarly to the pimax hmd, slides over the hinge to cover it all up.
I found that this cover was tight enough not to move in abs, but if it is moving then you can drill a small hole on the underside through to the hinge & secure it using another screw from the donor psvr.

parts you will need are:
1: A broken/donor psvr for the headstrap
2: very small screwdriver
3: Small drill bit for the screw holes. I used both 0.9 mm & 1 mm. both worked fine
4: 5 mm drill bit to clean up the hinge hole (optional but makes things easier)
5: Small spring. I cut a small piece off of a biro pen
6: M5 bolt at least 45 mm long (i used 50 mm) with washers & optional spring washers. Even better would be a thumb bolt & or thumb nut for easier adjustment.

I would advise printing both parts of the hinge out of a tough plastic like abs or petg etc.. as the hinge is going to be under some pressure from the bolt & will take some stress from adjusting.
I printed mine in abs & it seems to be strong enough so far.
The slide on cover will be fine printed in pla if you like & secured with a screw on the underside.
I have only printed this in abs so far so it may need a little adjustment for plastics with different characteristics.

The slide on cover will need supports in its current orientation, but you shouldn't need any support for the rest.

Although i have currently come to a resting point i am happy with, i am treating this as still a work in progress & i may need to make future adjustments after more use.

Any problems, just write in the comments.

Enjoy & if you found this useful it would be great if you could give it some feedback, a like or even post a make ;-)

Print Settings

Printer Brand:

Prusa

Printer:

i3 MK2S

Resolution:

various 0.15 - 0.35. 0.2 is a good balance

Infill:

20% on cover 100% or high shell thickness for hinge parts

Filament:
prusa abs black

Notes:

I would advise 100% infill or a high shell thickness for hinge parts
support material for cover

I use a large clear plastic box over my whole printer for printing abs

I use a 5mm brim on all my abs prints

Category: Other
