Hi, I was trying to achieve a relatively low cost NAS with open source capabilities so I decided to move my 2 3,5" HDD from external USB cage to single box together with Rasbperry Pi 4 B 8GB RAM model. This has been achieved with 2 pieces of Suptronics x832 expansion boards for Raspberry Pi. The size and the construction of the NAS has slight changes as it uses low profile cooling for Rasperry Pi and it has mount for 80mm fan on top. It is not necessary, but highly recommended to actively cool Pi and dissipate the heat from HDD. For clarification, I know this is not the recommended way to use these boards but as in my country the Suptronics x835 (and any other 3,5" HDD) expansion boards were not available, I decided this way to construct this personal NAS ;) Be aware, that the micro SD card will be only available, if you open the top cover, but if you don't mess up the configuration, you will be fine and only once you will need to access the micro SD card slot, when you instert it first time you image it :) 3 types of standoffs are used in this project (see on picture): 1.) M3x35mm for bottom (2nd) x832 board 2.) M3x12mm to put higher the top (1st) x832 board 3.) M3x30mm standoff from original x832 board package The Printer I used is Creality Ender 5 Plus (just for clarification as this option is not in print settings) First build both x832 boards up with HDD, use on the top board the original standoffs (3), add the smaller standoff (2) below it and finally add the bottom x832 board with longes standoff (1). Based on your preferences, connect to top x832 the Raspberry Pi with or without cooler.
