Pinewood Derby Block Model

Pinewood Derby Block Model

thingiverse

A model of the basic racer kit sold to boy scouts for use in their Pinwood Derby races. The dimensions are as close as I could measure using the BSA-approved kit I purchased at the hobby shop for reference. The intent is for boy scouts to sculpt a virtual model of their design in 123D Design before making the real car for the race. Instructions Really fortunate scouts may end up using their dad's desktop CNC router to mill out their model, though this hardly seems fair. Boy scouts who really want to push the limits of the rules may try cutting down their block to a mere base frame and then 3D print a case to fit over it, but do this AT YOUR OWN RISK. You may be disqualified. I don't know if anyone has ever tried this or if it was allowed. I think the Boy Scouts may need to reconsider their rules. Desktop manufacturing is going to factor in these competitions, if it isn't already. Whatever you do, be sure to double-check the final results against the rules and regulations for your troop's race and measure carefully. My model may be slightly off.
