The only thing you need is last years car that weighed in perfectly at 5.0 oz. Put the old car on the left and the new car on the right. If both sides stay in the air your cars are equal (mostly). Due to friction in the system it is possible for cars to be slightly different. Just this weekend using the scale my son's car was 5.05 oz vs last years car of 5.0 oz.
