The Piper PA-28 Cherokee is a low wing single-engine piston driven propeller aircraft designed for family, personal transport, air taxi and training. It was originally developed in 1960 and remained in production until 2009.The competition for the Piper Cherokee was the Cessna 172 and Grumman AA-5 series, Beechcraft Musketeer. The series had fixed or retractable landing gear depending on model. The Cherokee Arrow 240 had retractable landing gear.
