Applying upward pressure to the foot can temporarily relieve pain associated with Plantar Fasciitis. While apparatuses do exist to do this, many put tension on the toe using a tight fitting sock. This causes discomfort to the toe. This apparatus is designed to put tension on the ball of the foot. This thing was suggested to me by a Physical Therapist who sufferers from pain due to Plantar Fasciitis to help alleviate discomfort! This is a resting splint for when you are sleeping or relaxing (not walking). This thing is part of a final project for CPSC 183 Technology and the Law with Prof. Brad Rosen at Yale University. The idea of this project is to ask friends for ideas for physical objects that they would like to have that could be printed on the Makerbot TOM. I have designed them, printed them out and given them to the people who requested them. I also have uploaded them here to Thingiverse to add to the library of physical objects that people find cool, useful, or just plain fun! Instructions Print and clean this part. If you would like to use Velcro, see "Route A". If you would prefer to use plastic buckles, print 2 male buckles from http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1416 and 2 female buckles from http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1272 to accommodate your straps and see "Route B". Route A - You will also need the following supplies: Knee Stabilizer Brace 3/4 Velcro Straps (~7ft) 3/4 Squishy Foam Strip Attach 2 2ft. Velcro Straps to the printed brace as seen in the picture (wrap them around the center posts and pass through the appropriate hole). Attach 1 3ft. Velcro strap to the knee stabilizer brace (either grab a sturdy component and tie the strap in the middle to it or sew the strap on from the center). Attach the squishy foam strip to the foot-side of the brace. Put on the knee brace, and put the foot brace on the affected foot as seen in the picture (get it into a comfortable position - it may be more comfortable to wear a heavy sock when wearing this so the strap does not hurt your foot). You can now attach the Velcro straps together and put tension on the foot to relieve pain associated with Plantar Fasciitis. Route B - You will also need the following supplies: Knee Stabilizer Brace 3/4 Straps (~7ft) 3/4 Squishy Foam Strip Follow instructions from Route A, but place buckles on each end of the straps to connect and tighten.
