Playing card holder

Playing card holder

prusaprinters

A stand for playing cards, designed especially for kids who can't hold the cards in their hadns yet. It can stand on a tabletop or the "middle leg" of the frame can be held in a hand in a similar way playing cards are normally held, which should help the kids learn the "proper cardholding technique" :)

Perhaps it will help someone keep their family entertained during the COVID isolation :(

EDIT: My MINI finally arrived, so the design is now tested and works perfectly. When made of PLA, the middle plate with 0.87 mm thickness and 3 mm spacer provides optimal 'springiness'.

The stand consists of three parts:

Frame

Middle plate – it holds the cards with its springiness, so it needs to flex. Four versions are available, with 0.44 or 0.87 mm thickness (i.e. one or two perimeter(s) with 0.4 mm nozzle) and with 2 or 3 mm spacer (determines maximum thickness of the cards in the holder). Choose the one that suits your needs, mainly filament choice will affect which thickness you need to achieve the right amount of flex.

Front plate – three versions are availabe: unicorn, tractor and a plain one.

Print instructions

Printing:

Print layout is shown in a picture, the frame prints without supports on its back with the front part sticking up.

The front plate prints tilted with supports on the back and under the fillets (the supports are touching parts that won't be visible). Optionally use modifiers around the screw hole (read assembly instructions below).

The middle plate prints without supports on the big flat base, be sure to slice properly the thin wall, e.g. with "thin wall detection" enabled in PrusaSlicer.

Assembly:

The three components are assembled using an M4x16 mm hex head bolt (DIN 912).

The front plate has a 3.1 mm hole in it that can be tapped to M4, or you can print the front plate with a lot of perimeters/solid infill around the hole using local modifiers when slicing and then drill a bigger hole and melt in a brass threaded insert.
