Pneumatic Syringe Extruder Adapter (twist-lock and o-ring seal)

Attaches an air hose, via a hose barb, to a syringe so you can extrude all manner of things like chocolate, frosting, clay, any thing that is a semi-solid paste! For an example, look up Makerbot's Frostruder MK2, which sadly seems to no longer be unavailable. Which was the inspiration for this project. More to come as I assemble the hoses, solenoid(s), and experiment! Instructions The provided .stl's were designed around these Luer-lock syringes: 50cc: http://sra-solder.com/product.php/6051/7 30cc: http://sra-solder.com/product.php/6050/7 Or you can open the .scad file, look at the parameters, take the appropriate measurements from your own syringe, hose barb, and/or o-ring, and print one to fit whatever you have on hand! Note that the locking mechanism has a completely horizontal overhang that must be open on two sides, so the model has a single wall support (designed for a 0.5 mm nozzle, but there is a parameter for that too!) along two sides that you must remove. You will also need a tap that matches the threads on your hose barb of choice, so you can have a good airtight seal. You may also want to increase the number of perimeters and solid layers to prevent air from leaking through the exposed printed part. I printed mine with 3 perimeters for a sturdy hole perimeter so that it could be tapped, and with 4 solid layers to provide an airtight seal through the faces of the part. Experiment! Assembly: Tap the hole and thread in your hose barb, optionally with pipe sealing tape or some other form of sealant. Wrap your o-ring around the center section, into the groove provided for retaining it. Load your syringe with your paste of choice, maybe insert a stopper to prevent leakage and ensure even pressure, and insert into the adapter and twist. Now go find out what prints and what makes a gooey mess! While not strictly a derivative (this printed part replaces some laser cut vitamins in their version), check out http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1143 For attaching to the X carriage, this might be useful: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:17216 Update: Added 30cc syringe specs to .scad file and 30cc syringe .stl
