Pocket Sun Dial, foldable

A portable pocket sun dial designed for 50°N. For details of where 50°N is on earth see here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/50th_parallel_north The big hole in the base near the hinge makes it easy to attach a string to hang it around your neck, attach it to your bag(pack) or to make it easier to find it in your pocket. You can close (fold) the pocket sun dial like a pocket watch if you want to put it in your pocket. (not shown in the pictures) Thanks for visiting. Chris Created with FreeCAD http://www.freecadweb.org/ Instructions Print the base. Print the lid. Print 2x the plug. (optional) Put a compass in the hole of the base. (optional) north of the compass should point to the lid. (see picture) Assemble the lid and base so that the holes of the hinge align. Put a piece of filament (3mm) through the hole to make the hinge work. If you don't have filament with 3mm diameter you can use a M3 screw (not tested). Put a string through the hole in the lid and the base as seen in the picture. Tie a knot at each end (on the outer side) to fix the string. Then you can hide the knots and close the holes form the outside with the plugs. (optional) The face of the lid should be facing south (north of the compass needle directing to the lid like shown in the picture) and the base should be horizontal in order to read the time of day. In direct sunlight you can read the time of day on the face of the lid. horizontal left mark on the lid -> 6:00h in the morning vertical down mark on the lid -> 12:00h (midday) horizontal right mark on the lid -> 18:00h in summertime for time correction reasons there is a 1 hour difference... At night you can use a flashlight in order to use the compass for orientation. Enjoy.
