Polar Plumb for a German Equatorial Mount

Polar Plumb for a German Equatorial Mount

thingiverse

This kit aids in initial polar alignment of your equatorial mount. The included plummet (plumb bob) is attached to the mounts counter weight shaft and a second plummet to the mount center bolt. These will settle on points on the ground that should be on the same plane as your RA axis and your optical axis (assuming everything is lined up correctly) when the mount is pointing at the celestial pole. By aligning these points on the ground with a predetermined witness mark or a true N/S line, the mount will be close to polar aligned. This allows for faster refinement of alignment later in the evening. Included in this thing are a threaded attachment bolt for an iOptron CEM 25 counter weight bar and a quick clip for attachment to the center bolt knob. The small tensioner allows for easy height adjustment of the plummets while the leg loop component allows you to tie the plummet to a loop (see the photo's for a better explanation).
