Pool Hose to Shop-Vac or Central Vacuum

I wanted a hose in my garage that would work with my home central vacuum since I had a port in the garage. I wanted a long enough hose to vacuum out my car and truck. I found the commercial hoses are terribly expensive.

Then I discovered that pool hoses are available at much lower prices and are as durable as CV and shop vac hoses. I found a 30ft hose on Amazon for about $25.

The Pool fittings that come on the hose are the wrong size to fit either my CV or my shop vac. So, I cut off the ends and built the fittings I made it in Tinkercad with some help from existing designs I found in Thingiverse. I also cut the hose into 2 smaller pieces (10ft and 20ft) to make them more manageable for some jobs and made a union fitting to rejoin them when I need a really long hose.

I made a fitting that plugs into my Central Vacuum, one that fits the Shop Vac, one that fits the nozzles and a union fitting to join 2 hoses together.

Print Settings

Printer Brand:

Creality

Printer:

Ender 3

Rafts:

Doesn't Matter

Supports:

No

Resolution:

.28

Infill:

10

Notes:

May need brim to help with adhesion to build plate since the contact area is small.

Post-Printing

After printing

Central vac adapter can be used as printed if you have a separate switch to turn on the vacuum. I added a strip of foil tape as a conductor on mine to turn on the vac as soon as the hose is plugged in. You could also glue on a piece of foil.

These fittings screw on (counter clockwise) to a piece if pool hose with the original connector cut off.

If they don't fit perfect you can resize slightly in your slicer.

I find that light sanding and painting with a thin coat of epoxy will make a better fit and also make the fittings more durable.

How I Designed This

I borrowed pieces and/or concepts from the following designs on Thingiverse:

Baby Vac reduction in to central vacuum cleaner

by ZbynekSulc February 20, 2020

vacuum spiral hose connector 50mm

by saberlod April 19, 2019

Shopvac Hose Adapter Generator [Parametric]

by truglodite November 10, 2018

I chopped up, stretched, and modified these items in Tinkercad and added parts of my own to create the pieces I needed for my Pool Hose project.

Category: Tools
