Porsche Cayman Oil Door Latch

Porsche Cayman Oil Door Latch

thingiverse

Replacement latch for the Porsche Cayman 997 oil and coolant door. A new assembly is very expensive. My design is based on my 987.1 version, but other versions of the car may use the same door and latch. This latch will replace just the broken piece and has been designed to be stronger than the original. It can be painted satin silver to match the original trim or printed in a contrasting color. I installed this one and it works very well. Due to the potential for heat in the latch location, I recommend using a 3D printed plastic with a higher melting point – I used Polymaker PC-MAX, but ABS or Nylon may work as well. Installation instructions: 1) It is not necessary to remove the door, but may be easier to work on if it is removed from the car. Move the carpet to expose the lower hinges. Carefully squeeze-in the tabs on both sides, and the door should move forward for removal. 2) Pry the satin aluminum trim piece with the carpet inset from the front of the door. It appears to be held on with glue. Warming the door and glue slightly with a hair dryer may soften the glue, but I was able to carefully pry it free without heat. 3) Remove the pin through the latch and the tension spring. 4) Install the new latch and put everything back together in reverse order. High temperature hot glue or epoxy may be used to install the trim with the new latch back on the door.
