Project description
My project includes a box operated by hinges. I have designed it in such a way that it can function as a desk and as storage. It is small enough to be portable, but big enough to write on. This gives students a chance to bring their school with them, where ever they go. It also has a space for a lock on it, so you can store a phone or some important papers in there if needed.
About
For the Makerbot competition, I needed to make something that would help organize desk space. Knowing that each person’s desk is different, you can’t make a desk organizer that fits everyone. So then why not make your own desk? That way no-matter-what, it is the same for everyone. This project includes 2 hinges to open and close, with enough space to fit one to two notebooks. Something that came across my mind while making this was, why just make it for school? You could use it in your home too. And thinking of that, I decided to put an area for a lock. That way whatever you put in there, is safe from everyone but you. The project may be big, but since its bigger, you can do more things with it.
Changes
Yes, it is a simple project, but sometimes the most simple things are the best. Originally the project consisted of modular attachments. I had a book holder/art easel and a phone/iPad compatible holder with spots for charging cables. These were some great ideas, but they took up a lot of space, so I later removed it to make it more portable.
Dimensions
The dimensions of this portable desk are 17.5 inches long by 10 inches wide by 1.5 inches tall. Yes, it is large, and yes it may be the largest submission, but this means it has more uses. (I noticed you owned a printer that reached 18 inches tall. So to print this project, you will need to print its side. Aka long ways up)
