Portal Radio Shell

Portal Radio Shell

This is my attempt at the radio found in the Portal series. It is a hollow body is at a 1:1 scale (27 cm long by roughly 16 cm high (11 inchs by 6&1/2 inch)) This was modelled using a screenshot I took of the radio in game and a rule so has to properly position and dimension things (with some artistic license) Instructions Version 1.1(Updated 13th/06/2012): All pieces are now theoretically printable on anything with a 6 by 6 by 6 inch envelope (~153mm). They have been split in half to facilitate printing. Shell walls are now just under 1/8 inch thick (2.8mm). Button Hole and Antenna holes have been removed. Done as shell is most likely difficult enough to print without holes. Parts lists for print: HalfBase (x2) HalfShell HalfShellRight HalfFaceplate/HalfFaceplateHole (x2) Optional: Tuning Nob. Designed to look like the black nob on the top of the radio with a practical internal design. *Additional files are SketchUp originals for modding purposes. HalfFaceplateHole comes with holes cut out of the faceplate for the speakers, the light, and the screen. HalfFaceplate does not in so a replica can be made without being fully functioning. Both files have a ~1/8 inch (3 mm) gap between the faceplate and the shell for lighting. If you wish to eliminate this the faceplate can be scaled up by a factor of 1.028. Rough dimensions: 11" W x 4.5" D x 6.5" H or 270mm x 115mm x 160 mm It includes holes for: Channel Display Speakers Front LED Lighting It does not yet include holes for: AC Power Battery Backup Tuning nob On Button Antenna Additional Materials required for a fully functional radio include: Small radio with speakers (AC powered) Blue LEDs (~15) Wires (TBD) Small Resisters (TBD) LED Display Additional tools: Electrical tape Sand paper Acetone (nail polish remover) Dremels and sanders though very helpful shouldn't be required. This is a thing in progress and my first large project. As I currently do not own a 3D printer (sooooooon) I'd love someone to try to print it. Version 1.0 (Ignore): Though not printable in full for most printers I would consider printing it in two sections so that each piece will fit within a 6 inch wide by 7 inch tall by 5 inch long cube or on a half scale. This shell is a hollow body intended to be filled with the electronics necessary for a real radio. I am currently uploading sectional pieces to facilitate easier printing. The full model other than speaker grills is contained within the single stl file or the sketchup one named "portalradio1to1." All other files are the model split up into pieces for easier printing other than the speaker grills which is an addition if you want to cut your own grills into them. Suggestions are welcomed.
