PowerBook 1400 Hinge Reinforcement Shim

PowerBook 1400 Hinge Reinforcement Shim

I made this shim to reinforce the lids of a couple PowerBook 1400, one with obvious cracks and one with hairlines just starting. This is made to fit exactly into the lid as is; I did not want to remove existing structure (but it would be an easy remix, knock yourself out). The 1400 does not waste any space behind the LCD, so i keep this pretty streamlined. It is made to print flat on the bed. The profile should pop easily into place. The slots on the underside fit over ridges in the existing lid and provide a slight flex, to let the shim conform to the subtle curve inside the lid. There are little nubs that fit precisely around the existing hinge-mounts, i used extra blobs of glue there to melt them into the structure. I used Weld-On #16 to fuse the shim into the lid. I am not any sort of engineer, i just started with a rectangle and kept adapting the shape until it fit. I hope some other folks find this helpful, or can use it to make their own.
