NEW Primbal V3 Design Available: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2538360 Finally a 3-axis gimbal designed exclusively for 3D printing! This gimbal is composed of 23 printed parts that are all printer friendly. All three axis are fully adjustable to perfectly balance the gimbal. This gimbal is designed with focus on mounting a Xiaomi Yi to a TBS Discovery frame, but it can be used wherever you like and with GoPros as well (see special GoPro STLs). Included in are STLs for a longer yaw arm which will allow for full rotation on the roll axis. Otherwise the roll axis is limited to about 45 degrees which is good for most use. Specs: Parts: 23 Printed Hardware: 4 x M1.6 Bolt and Nut 12mm, 6 x M2 Bolt 8mm, 4 x M3 Bolt 4mm, 2 x M3 Bolt 6mm Motors: 1 x Turnigy 2804-210kv, 2 x Turnigy 2206-140kv Controller: Micro Storm32 (unfortunately I do not recommend this model due to its limited functionality, but it works for this purpose). Weight: 233g with camera, 157g without Balancing: Balancing is mainly done through loosening the bolts holding the arms to the roll/yaw motors and sliding the bolt spacer along the adjustment slot. For the pitch axis a similar thing is done with the pitch cam mount to adjust up and down. To adjust forward and back on the pitch axis loosen the bolts holding the camera frame to the pitch mount and move the camera back as necessary. A spacer between the pitch mount and camera frame may then be necessary. The Xiaomi Yi should balance perfectly on the pitch axis without any adjustment to forward/back. Lens of the camera is closest to the pitch motor. Different Motors/Parts: If you are using a GoPro print 'CameraFrameGoPro' and 'CameraBarGoPro'. Ignore the other ones camera frame and bar. If you use the full size Storm32 controller print the full size Storm32 housing parts at the bottom of the list and ignore the controller housing and controller tube clamp files around the middle of the list. If you need the design modified to fit a different gimbal motor or part, then let me know! I can modify the design for your needs. No guarantees though as there is only so much you can do without the physical parts in hand. Revisions: Isolator Bottom: The vibration isolator bottom has been revised to stiffen it up and improve yaw motor clearance. Old, obsolete parts are located at the bottom of the parts list. There is no need to print those parts unless desired. Video shot using this gimbal: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4oZvns_sekI Print Settings Printer Brand: RepRap Printer: FolgerTech 2020 Rafts: No Supports: No Notes: Arms: Print with adjustable part of arm down on bed, motor casing pointing up, Tube Clamps: Printed in two halves, hook part flat on bed. Join halves together with a small brad nail in between to add strength. Print with 'C' part of clamp flat on print bed. Note 2 full clamps are needed for the vibration isolator and 2 for the controller housing. Camera Bar: Print on side (so the curved part is an arch). Post-Printing How I Designed This Not wanting to buy a commercial 3-axis gimbal, I struggled to find a 3D printed design that really fit my needs. I wanted something lightweight, compact, and that could fit a Xiaomi Yi yet perform well. After lots of designing and prototyping the first version to be released is ready to share.
