Revisiting Maker Faire Bay Area, I discovered an intriguing robot creation by Chris Myers. It's essentially a tripod with two pen-legs and a motor-third leg that spins and draws spirograph style designs. Regrettably, my initial visit missed this spectacle, but my daughter ensured we didn't miss it again. We built one together, a memorable bonding experience. Chris' design is made up of lasercut acrylic pieces, zip ties, double-sided tape, and rubber bands. I admired the design so much that I attempted to create a printable version - smaller, in a single piece, requiring fewer parts. However, this required angling each leg at 45 degrees to avoid support structures. The robot runs on either four AAAA batteries or a 9V battery with motor and switch addition for drawing fun! For more information, visit Chris Myers' Maker Faire page and his website.
