PrintDry Spool Holder Mod

I have a love/hate relationship with my PrintDry Pro. It has an additional chamber for two more spools for a total of four (4) spools. It works great for distribution with fast and easy filament changes which is what I love about it, not to mention that I can keep my filament in a controlled environment. What I hate is the spool holder design. The original design is all well and good until the rubber mounting adapters fall out of the spool holes and the filament binds up. So I set out to modify the design using the supplied adapters and mounting rod with a secure hollow shaft that bolts together. The mod is very efficient and very quick to assemble.

The threads are sized as ½" pipe thread so a standard EMT connector nut will work on the threaded shaft, but I have supplied the print file for a plastic nut. There are three (3) parts total consisting of the shaft with built in bushing for one adapter, a separate flange bushing for the other adapter which slides over the shaft and nut to secure it all together. Simply remove the existing bushing from the adapters and slide the new shaft and bushing into the adapters and tighten the nut only finger tight, taking care not to over tighten (just a little snug is all it takes). The original mounting rod is used through the shaft. Spools glide effortlessly with the mod never to worry about it coming apart. Works with both large and small adapters. I have also included some spacers, if needed for smaller, narrow spools. The spacers range from 0.0625" to 0.5" labeled 00625 to 05 respectively. For the narrow spools, you will have to use the spacers on the nut side of adapter. Simply print as many as you need.

Parts can be printed at low or default perimeters as well as top and bottom layers because there is essentially no high pressure that deems thicker walls and/or additional perimeters. However, I would advise to print the nut at a higher detail ( 0.10mm Detail worked good for me) and higher perimeters (I used 6 perimeters) due to the thread pitch. Lower resolution may cause some layers to separate across the threads on the nut.

Thank you for having a look and hope this mod can and will serve your purpose as it did for me. Until next project…;p
