PrintrBot Plus Z Screw Isolator
thingiverse
Eliminate Z-axis wobble with this modification! The mod involves incorporating a bracket that houses the Z nut, which is not rigidly connected to the X end brackets like in regular Printrbot Plus printers. This design prevents the Z axis screw from wobbling and affecting nozzle positioning. Initially, I created this solution to address my personal issue with Z-axis instability. Inspired by the Prusa Z Screw Isolator (thing:20147), I sought to develop an equivalent for Printrbot Plus users. This modification could potentially work for Printrbot LC models as well, but I haven't been able to test it yet. Feedback from LC owners is appreciated! I have made updates to the design, including a new STL file to fix a part that wasn't slicing correctly. Additionally, a revised version has been created with parts swapped, so retraction issues occur on the less crucial side of the print. To install these modifications, follow these instructions: 1. Lift the entire X axis away from the top of the Printrbot. 2. Place the isolators over the Z lead screw, ensuring that the nuts fit inside and the flat side is at the top (with the slot facing towards the middle). 3. Lower the X axis back onto the Z threaded rods. 4. Ensure the wooden piece holding the Z linear bearings fits into the slot to prevent rotational movement of the isolators. For optimum printing quality, I recommend using a 0.2mm layer height, 0.4 infill, and 2 perimeters with standard Printrbot Plus settings. In case you need to make adjustments based on your printer calibration, I have provided SketchUp files for reference.
