PRISM Shelving System

PRISM Shelving System

The PRISM Shelving System was created in order to bring a strong and unique shelf bracket to everyone. The design was originally inspired by a similar, yet very different shelf bracket offered by IKEA. A number of years ago when I first moved into my home, I installed some shelves in my entertainment area. A couple of years after the initial installation, I was disappointed to find out that the model I was using was now discontinued by IKEA. This is where the inspiration for the PRISM system began. I knew that if the dimensions were simply copied from the IKEA model, the resulting printed bracket would not be of sufficient strength. By extrapolating the existing wooden form into a brand new one suitable for 3D printing, the PRISM brackets were born. The resulting brackets consist of 2 parametrically defined models, with 3 variations of each created. When printed using the proper orientation (can be seen in the provided reference drawings) the brackets are extremely strong, and also quite easy to print. The actual shelf boards are solid pine sourced from my local hardware store. Any board material should be suitable as long as it is of sufficient thickness (mine are 18.6mm / 3/4") and width (mine are 231.8mm / 9-1/8"). Thank you for viewing, I hope you enjoy. Kyle
