Project Saturn (Daphnis) Controller Frame

thingiverse

This controller frame was designed to achieve the specific goals of Project Saturn (Daphnis), namely: the highest storage density possible with passive (room temperature) cooling, and de-coupling of the physical enclosure's scale-out architecture from any given controller product. These design goals were also blended with a strong desire to 3D print as much of the solution as possible, to leverage smarter design decisions to remove the need to purchase additional fasteners or fittings. A parametric construction for the [Odroid HC4](https://www.hardkernel.com/shop/odroid-hc4/) controller, this print maximizes airflow by standing the HC4 vertically behind the two harddrives that it manages. The controller frame securely connects to the TJUSIG rack with two of the Project Saturn (Daphnis) feet, each affixed with a pair of parametric clips. To mitigate the need for bespoke fasteners, the Odroid HC4 is screwed on to the controller frame stand-offs using the screws that it ships with. There is a through-hole included in the controller frame design to ensure that access to the reset-switch is not impeded. The design also ensures that the infrared receiver is facing the front of the storage cluster (not used in Project Saturn) with all network and power connectivity via the back. Overall this controller frame is simple - it is strong, yet minimal, providing sturdy support for the Odroid HC4 and with good air circulation, making an excellent controller "blade" for virtually arbitrary scale-out / distributes storage architectures. I have also provided the 3MF files to simplify orientation on the print bed.
