Prusa Box Quick Remove Corner with Compression Spring
prusaprinters
This is a remix of the original beta quick remove corners for the Printer-Box.com Prusa Box. The original parts featured a molded spring that is intended to push the upper corner legs out just enough to clear the mounting screws on the bottom case. Unfortunately, as many people have found and the company has documented on their facebook group, the molded spring feature breaks after a few cycles. The company's solution is to bend the aluminum parts of the box to create a spring effect - a fair solution, but I didn't want to bend my beautiful Prusa Box parts. So I modified the printed corners with a hole to accept a compression spring that approximates the original design intention. I measured the force applied by the original molded spring feature and it averaged about 5 lbs for a displacement of 0.125 in, a spring rate of about 40 lbs/in. I chose a spring from McMaster-Carr.com, part #9657K608, 0.25" long, 0.210" OD, which comes in a pack of 12. The spring fits in a hole that is 0.125" (3.175mm) deep to expose 0.125"(3.175mm) of the spring. The hole is centered where the original contact point was. What you needPrint 4 corner pieces8 springs, McMaster-Carr part number 9657K608.Print SettingsCorner pieces: original design calls for PETG, 60% infill.
