Prusa i3 MK3 Low Profile Spool Holder

Prusa i3 MK3 Low Profile Spool Holder

prusaprinters

The standard Prusa i3 MK3 spool holder is almost totally vertical which makes it take up the most possible space in the height direction. I had a height restriction due to the shelf my printer was going to sit on, so I designed this as a way to make it fit.

This holder is angled backward allowing the spool to sit 2" lower and just behind / below the top of the frame. See the thumbnail showing a comparison with the original Prusa MK3 spool holder STL and this low profile spool holder.

Your filament may rub on the frame using this mod (depending on spool diameter). I recommend either putting a low friction tape on top of the frame or printing a filament guide such as this one: https://www.prusaprinters.org/prints/1299-filament-guide

I have printed this and installed on my MK3 successfully, so far have not had any issues printing parts and having the filament roll off of the spool.

Print instructions

Unassociated tags: arm style

Category: 3D Printer Parts Print Settings

Printer: Prusa i3 MK3

Rafts: No

Supports: No

Resolution: .15 mm

Infill: 50%

Notes:

I sliced with the prusa control program, appeared to be a grid infill. It worked great in ABS, but had to use ABS juice to avoid peel up, as well as a brim (not a full raft).
