Instructions CNC-able polycarbonate Y bottom thick plate (6mm) This is yet another Y bottom thick plate for the prusa mendel Based on prusa's interaction2 design - http://blog.reprap.org/2011/11/prusa-iteration-2.html This iteraction utilizes a simplified Y axis stack no top plate, just the PCB heated bed+glass stacked on top of the bottom plate using spacers I wanted to make a bottom Y for my kit, but Prusa's design for the lm8uu bearing holder is very different from what I have. - mine came with http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:7755 In this repository you can find the bed drilling template as originally designed: https://github.com/prusajr/PrusaMendel/tree/master/metric-prusa-lm8uu After asking TommyC about his printed single piece Y carriage, (see comments section here: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:23900) I decided to use polycarbonate for the bottom plate, and supposedly it can take as much as 140ºC before changing its dimensional characteristics - perfect for keeping the Y simple negating the need for insulation. - check your polycarbonate supplier's data sheet to check the temperature ratings - they can vary. You can laser cut it or use a CNC. You can find the gcode (emc2 mm arcs .gnc) for 3mm end-mills, 6mm polycarbonate plates and very slow speeds to accommodate small desktop cncs in the files. WARNING: Check z depth in gcode file as I had to go 8mm+deep on my CNC machine, so you MUST edit it or have a sacrifice surface at least 2mm thick. You should assemble your y smooth rods on top of the threaded rods, otherwise the plate will hit the belt pulleys.
