PRUSA Spool Holder

PRUSA Spool Holder

This print was done using SketchUp, Blender and PRUSA Slicer A comment was made in the original file that indicated they wished the original could be printed without supports. I remixed this and clipped off the conflicting side and added little more material for strength at the connection point. I believe the width of the end was needed for stability if you were to place this on a table or a shelf. To deal with the table top option, I plan on making a support and clip to for this to applied in that situation. That option is still a work in progress. There was also alot of comments regarding, stability when near the end of a spool or if the filament would pinch, and it would pull the spool off the holder. I solved this by using the original holder as a back up - see photo. In this photo, the spool rides the bearings but can use the original holder if needed. As in the original design, the Prusa Spool Holder uses: 8 M3-0.5x20mm Socket Cap Screws; 8 M3-0.5 Nylon Lock Nuts; 4 608 inline skate bearings. My initial print is in PLA and I will determine if I need to print in PETG later as I watch it perform under the weight.
