PS4 Wall Spacer

PS4 Wall Spacer

thingiverse

This is a spacer for a PS4 to keep it away from the wall to protect the cables. Look, kids just don't respect cables, am I right? They pull them out by the cord, don't bother lining up the plug with the socket before shoving it in until they achieve victory through sheer brute force... and have no concerns about the angles they are asking them to bend at. Every time the PS4's wireless controllers ran out of charge and the kids plugged them into the USB sockets on the front, the PS4 was being shoved backward against the wall. This meant that the power, network and HDMI cables in the back were all being crushed against the wall and bent at almost full 90° angles - frankly it was almost unbelievable that any of them were still working. So, I made this spacer - it keeps the lower portion of the PS4 at a distance of 9cm from the wall, which works perfectly in my TV cabinet (an IKEA "BESTÅ TV bench"). This means that the cables have enough space and (hopefully) will live long, healthy and productive lives. Simply print it out and slot it into the back of the PS4 - check the photos. Note that a portion of it goes _under_ the PS4, which has a small "foot" at the back raising it off the surface it's resting on - there's a slot to fit around this. The raised portions fit into the vents and the "slot" running up the back, which keeps it in place left/right - the fit is reasonably loose - it doesn't "lock" or jam into place or anything. It's not _super_ strong - if you shove it hard it will flex slightly (it's only 1.5mm thick, after all), but for normal everyday kid protection use cases (i.e., plugging in controllers), it works just fine. **UPDATE**: After a few weeks of use I noticed that the air coming out of the vents at the back of the PS4 is hot enough to cause the _very_ thin back portion to warp (i.e., the part that looks like an XX). Everything else is fine, and it's still doing the job I designed it to do, but... it's something to be aware of. Possibly that part needs to be a bit thicker, or maybe it needs to be printed in ABS to give it a better heat tolerance.
