Pythagorean bowl When the cup is not very full, the water in it remains in it. When the cup is filled to the brim, it empties completely, flooding the surroundings like a dripping glass. The moral of the matter would be that moderation is good, and excess is harmful. (In this case, why have such high edges at a cut if it is not intended to be fully utilized...) details: A siphon is hidden in the wall. When the level rises in the cup, water also enters the siphon through the small inlet hole at the bottom of the cup. As with communicating vessels; the water level "balances" identically in both parts; the visible container, and the hidden siphon. When the level has reached a certain height in the cup, which corresponds to the height at which the siphon course starts to descend again, the water runs down the slope of the siphon and escapes through the foot opening. Due to the physical properties of the water, all water is dragged away, even when the level in the cup drops below the maximum level of the siphon again. Use only water for the cut, because any other liquid leaving traces would be impossible to clean in the siphon, could clog it, and would mould (milk, fruit juice...). For best results: blow into the siphon to purge it completely before a new demonstration. Pour water vigorously from above the maximum level of the trap, the "pressure" of the water movement, or the falling water will help to prime the trap. If it still doesn't start (air bubble inside), by tapping two or three times from top to bottom the foot of the cutter on the table, it usually ends up working.
