This Dual Vortex Fan Duct minimizes rattling noise while maximizing cooling efficiency. Why Vortex? The goal is to cool the filament being extruded, not the extruder nozzle. A vortex pattern moves air around the extruder nozzle rather than directly at the nozzle. This ensures the fresh cool air from outside the extrusion area hits the melted filament rather than the extruder nozzle. How? Air is tunneled through a ring around the extruders. Rather than escaping through openings in the walls, air is guided by tubes to control direction of airflow. July 2019 update: We created an extremely slim design only 6mm thick. This allows for maximum possible visibility without sacrificing air flow. Please have a look at https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3715393 ———————————————————— Additional parts: ■ 1 x 6" tie-wrap ■ 1 x M4x20mm button head screw and nut for blower fan ■ 3 x M4x35mm button head screws and nuts for front and rear clips Modification: ■ Cut the tie-wrap around the wiring bundle on top of the dual-extruder. ■ Gently wiggle and pull the fan wires out of the wiring bundle. ■ Tie the rest of the wiring bundle back in place with tie-wrap. New Assembly: ■ Push one M4 nut through the slot at the top. This is a tight fit by design to keep the nut from spinning. Hold the M4 nut with needle nose pliers and push firmly. Make sure the sides of the M4 nut are the completely vertical. ■ Snap fan into place and fasten it with one M4x20mm screw. ■ Fasten fan duct onto carriage with fan clips and M4x35mm screws. ———————————————————— Updates: 2018-11-07 Slimmer design (v3) to improve visibility of the nozzle. 2018-10-11 New design (v2) that does not require removing extruders to install. 2018-04-26 Reduced size of left front clip to avoid bumping against enclosure door. 2018-04-08 Corrected Y offset to keep nozzle center of airflow.
