QR Code Business Card

Hi there,
here is an idea for you. Why not print a business card with a QR code? This one will open my Thingiverse page. I'm also using it for my "Xing" Profile (The german Version of LinkedIn). It is still flexible using PLA and it is a nice give away. A Lithophane maker is used to create the file, although this is not a lithophane in the classical sense. Therefore this is a simpler and easier way to create a 3D printable QR code than some other designs I found on Thingiverse (see the links below).

Also it's a differnt way of utilizing Lithophane generators, which makes them even more fascinating. This way any 2D Logo with a few discret colors can be made 3D printable with a few clicks, without having to retrace the whole file manually. There is also a way to do that with blender (see link below) a little more automated, but you have to create the rest of the file, like the baseplate, yourself, which makes the lithophane generator much faster (I'm a noob in Blender).

Have fun and please create some designs of your own. I would be pleased to see your version. Also leave me some feedback if you like.

Update 18.11.20:
I reprinted the card using 0.1 mm Layerheight and a non shiny black filament (first picture). The quality is much better now, the print is way more detailed. I would recommend to print it this way. All other pictures show the 0.2 mm sliced card.

How To:

Create QR Code
https://pageloot.com/de/qr-code-erstellen/#link
Make sure you use the color black (will be aesier when generating the Lithophane)
export at 200 x 200 px as .svg file or .jpg (see image)
Note - On customize you can set the Black squares to be round, looks nice, too. But I think the squares are easier to print, because you will have a few larger blocks of squares. So the nozzle will be lifted fewer times. Also you coul add a Logo to be placed in the middle.

Card Design
Use Paint.Net or inkscape
Standard credit / business card size: 55 x 85 mm
Make sure to only work in Black and white (no greyscales)
export it as .png file

Create .STL File
Lithopane - http://3dp.rocks/lithophane/
Drag and drop your 2D business card design and use the settings in the images.

Sclic3r
Use "quality 0.1 mm" or "Quality 0.2mm" and "Prusament PLA" presets
Add a Colorchange after the first layer at which the black boxes begin
Prusa article on how t change color:
https://www.help.prusa3d.com/en/article/color-change\_1687

print
That's it. Sounds more complicated than it actually is.

There are some cool and good looking 3D printed QR Code designs on Thingiverse. Nevertheless I think my way is the easiest and fastest. It can also be applied to any other 2D logo, espacially for black and white logos.

Designs on thinigverse:

These are nice but dual extruded, most of us can't do that trick.
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:12285
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2532326

I really like the idea of the cube, but a sharpie was used Maybe I reprint it in two colors.
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:257866

This customizer is great, too.
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:46884

This one is really myterius, I don't know if I dare to print it. But I think trolling people with QR codes could be the new street art trend 2021.
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3474000

This one is reall cute!
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2201645

Additional Links

The idea was inspired by this video:

<oembed url="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F0IF5PAH7gs&list=PL2bQhO45G947YsHaPGI8EAQxeMsx01tkF&index=2"></oembed>

Paint.Net:
https://www.getpaint.net/download.html

Inkscape:
https://inkscape.org/de/

Creating .STL files from 2D logos with blender:

<oembed url="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g6cmClwLhz8&list=PL2bQhO45G947YsHaPGI8EAQxeMsx01tkF&index=22&t=73s"></oembed>
