R2-D2 Astromech Droid Holoprojector with separate Grasp

<p>R2-D2's “Holoprojectors” are one of the few “found parts” on the original 1977 costumes and filming props; they began life as reading maps for the Vickers Viscount passenger aircraft. &nbsp;To prevent people from burning their hands on the incandescent bulb powered metal lamps, the very end part - the sort of “nozzle” bit - was actually made of plastic.</p><p>In “A New Hope” you can see that mostly the ends of R2's holoprojectors are black, not blue or silver. &nbsp;In a few places they're a slightly different shape, and silver coloured, because the black plastic grasps had broken off. &nbsp;By Empire Strikes Back, many of the holoprojectors were actually resin casts, and the entire unit began to be painted silver - but in the first movie, they're usually a different colour.</p><p>I wanted to easily print my grasps in different colours while still being able to use current Mr.Baddeley and R2-D2 Builders' Club designs. &nbsp;Not finding anything that did the job, I remixed two other designs to come up with this.</p><p>The main body of the HP comes from Hammer32's “Threaded Holoprojector, Slip Ring Holder, and Back for Mr. Baddeley's 3D Holoprojector and Flthy's Light Kit” as shared on Thingiverse:</p><p><a href="https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2985976">https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2985976</a></p><p>The grasp comes from R2maker's “Vickers Viscount 700 Series Reading Lamp (R2-D2 Holoprojector),” a very detailed reconstruction of the original reading lamp from period documents, also shared on Thingiverse:</p><p><a href="https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:55991">https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:55991</a></p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>The HoloPlug is unaltered from Hammer32's upload and is shared here for convenience. &nbsp;Likewise, the Grasp and Threads files are unaltered from R2makers and are shared here for convenience.</p><p>Most printers are not accurate enough to make the threading on the Grasp and Threads actually functional. &nbsp;R2maker used a tap-and-die set to clean them up; they also say that other makers had success printing the Threads at 98%. &nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>I found that on my Bambu X1 - which is very accurate - reduceing X and Y to 98% worked well, but on the Ender-5 - which is less accurate - the threads were still too rough. So, I made the “Thread Replacer” part which simply uses a friction fit to hold the Grasp and Holoprojector together. &nbsp;You don't need both the Threads and the Thread Replacer.</p>
