R8 Collet

R8 Collet

Let's face it, there is no way that a 3D printed collet will be strong enough to hold tools for milling. So I actually made this for a size check while designing other parts, not for actual use. I am uploading this thing in hope that others might be able to find some use for it. I modeled it after the R8 specifications that I found online. The various dimensions are defined at the top of the OpenSCAD file should others was to tweak them. The OpenSCAD file contains a module named collet() that contains the basic shape of an R8 collet. I then take this shape and modify it into an endmill holding collet, named endmill_collet(). The screw hole for is threaded using included thread library. In my version of OpenSCAD, the preview (F5) view would fail due to excess size created by the threads, though a render (F6) will succeed. To handle this issue, a flag "show_threads" may be toggled between 0 and 1. When 0, a simple cylinder is used instead of threads, allowing preview to succeed during design.
